The culinary skills of Elizabeth King provided the foundation for a caring family business, with handmade pastry, careful seasoning and the finest fillings at the heart of everything. It is this heritage which has been passed down intact through the years.
In the early 1960’s, Kenneth Parr - himself a master piemaker - felt so strongly about the tradition of Mrs King’s Pies that he bought the "business". Paul Hartland joined the business in 1984 and learned his trade - and his passion for pies - from one of the best piemakers in the business.
If a reputation for the finest quality and product with genuine provenance every time is integral to Mrs King’s Pies, recent years have seen some impressive contributions to that heritage in the form of numerous accolades and awards. The coveted Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Championship was first won back in 1960 by Mr Parr, and then many more times since. Mrs Kings Pies also won the prestigious Melton Mowbray Pork Pie at the British Pie Awards.
Mrs King’s Pies have also featured in many newspaper articles and TV shows, including the prestigious Rick Stein’s Food Heroes. Internet foodie blogger Simon Majumder of Eat My Globe names our pies as one of the world’s Top 10 ‘must-eat foods - an accolade indeed.
